The Ultimate Johannesburg Tour takes you to iconic heritage sites in Johannesburg CBD and Soweto; showcasing South Africa’s turbulent history and promising future. It’s an opportunity to learn more about events that shaped the country’s past and discover the dynamic cultural diversity of two of the most prominent cities in the country.
Highlights of the Johannesburg tour includes Constitutional Hill the Apartheid Museum and the vibrant Newtown Junction.
In Soweto, we journey past striking landmarks and historic sites, visit an informal settlement and the Hector Pieterson Museum and ends in the vibrant Vilakazi Street which was home of the great Nelson Mandela.
After pick-ups, we head to Constitution Hill in Braamfontein for a guided tour of this former prison and military fort, now home to South Africa’s Constitutional Court and a symbol of the nation’s journey to democracy. We then cross the iconic Mandela Bridge into Johannesburg CBD for an orientation of landmarks like Newtown, Gandhi Square, and Luthuli House. Our final stop is the Apartheid Museum, a powerful showcase of South Africa’s struggle and triumph toward freedom.
We leave the museum around 14h00 and head to Soweto, passing landmarks like FNB Stadium, Baragwanath Hospital, and Soweto Towers. The tour explores key heritage sites and the vibrant culture of Soweto. Stops include Motsoaledi informal settlement, the Hector Pieterson Museum, and optional visits to Regina Mundi Church and the Nelson Mandela Museum (own cost). The day ends with a visit to Vilakazi Street before returning to your accommodation.
