Your expert guide will help you spot rare wildlife and share fascinating stories about Akagera’s rewilding journey — from near collapse to becoming a protected paradise once again. Enjoy a scenic stop for lunch or a picnic with panoramic views before continuing your search for the Big Five and other wildlife such as giraffes, zebras, impalas, and countless bird species.
Return to Kigali in the evening with a heart full of adventure and a deeper appreciation for Rwanda’s natural heritage.
6:00 AM – Pick-up & Scenic Drive from Kigali
Your adventure begins with a friendly pick-up from your hotel in Kigali. Feel the crisp morning air as we journey east through Rwanda’s rolling hills and picturesque countryside toward Akagera National Park. Midway, we’ll pause for about 10 minutes to stretch, enjoy a quick coffee, or make a short restroom stop before continuing our drive.
8:00–8:30 AM – Arrival & Welcome at Akagera National Park
After a 2.5–3-hour scenic drive, arrive at the park’s southern gate where you’ll be warmly welcomed by professional local guides. Enjoy a short introduction and briefing on Akagera’s incredible history, wildlife diversity, and ongoing conservation success stories.
9:00 AM – Begin the Game Drive
Set off on a thrilling safari adventure across Akagera’s breathtaking landscapes — from open savannahs and rolling plains to lush woodland and shimmering lakes. With your expert guide, search for the iconic Big Five: lions, elephants, rhinos, buffaloes, and leopards. Along the way, you may also encounter giraffes, zebras, impalas, hippos, and hundreds of vibrant bird species.
12:30 PM – Picnic Lunch with a View
Savor a delicious packed lunch at one of the park’s scenic picnic sites, surrounded by the tranquil sounds of nature. Relax, refresh, and take in the panoramic views before continuing your exploration.
1:30 PM – Afternoon Safari Drive
Continue your journey through the park’s diverse habitats, capturing unforgettable photos and observing wildlife in their natural environment. Your guide will ensure the route provides the best possible opportunities for sightings and scenic moments.
4:30 PM – Exit the Park & Return to Kigali
As the afternoon light fades, begin your drive back to Kigali, reflecting on the day’s amazing encounters and the beauty of Rwanda’s wild landscapes.
6:30–7:00 PM – Drop-off in Kigali
Arrive back at your hotel or chosen drop-off point in Kigali. (If needed, early return around 3:00 PM can be arranged for special cases.)
Please bring a hat, sunscreen, insect repellent.
Wear comfortable clothes and closed shoes suitable for outdoor activities.
