7-day Vodun Days & Benin Cultural Heritage Experience (cotonou, Ganvié & Ouidah)
Experience the spiritual heartbeat of West Africa on this immersive 7-day journey through southern Benin during the vibrant Vodun Days celebration. From the floating village of Ganvié to the historic slave route of Ouidah, this tour blends culture, history, spirituality, and living traditions.
Discover sacred forests, ancient temples, and powerful Vodun ceremonies featuring traditional dances such as Zangbeto, Egungun, and Sakpata. Explore the bustling city of Cotonou, visit artisan markets, witness rituals at the Vodun Arena, and learn about the sacred Fâ divination system that guides local life and beliefs.
This special group departure is scheduled to take place from 5th to 11th January 2027, aligning with the Vodun Days celebrations for an authentic cultural immersion experience.
Day 1: Arrival in Cotonou
Arrival at Cotonou International Airport, welcome by our team, and transfer to the hotel. Check-in and rest. Short introduction briefing with your guide in the evening. Free time afterward to relax.
Day 2: You will depart from Cotonou and cross Lake Nokoué to visit Ganvié, where you will learn about the history of the people and their fishing techniques. You will explore the floating market, canals, sacred islands, and important monuments before enjoying lunch in Ganvié. In the afternoon, you will return to Cotonou and have free time in the evening.
Day 3: Ouidah – Vodun Days
You will visit Ouidah, starting with the sacred forest, the Temple of Pythons, Tcha-Tcha Square, and the slave route. You will continue to Djegbadji salt village and then enjoy lunch before visiting the Door of No Return, the artisan village, and the Vodun Arena. You will spend the night in Cotonou or Ouidah.
Day 4: Ouidah – Vodun Days
You will experience traditional Vodun dances such as Sakpata, Kokou, and Zangbeto, followed by lunch. In the afternoon, you will attend a beach festival in Ouidah featuring cultural performances by local and international artists before returning to Cotonou for the night.
Day 5: Ouidah – Vodun Days
You will witness Zangbeto, Egungun, and Gambada performances, followed by lunch. You will then attend ceremonies at the Vodun Arena, including the consultation of the Tofâ 2026 and interpretations of the Fâ signs guiding the year. You will return to Cotonou for overnight stay.
Day 6: You will travel to Adjara where you will cross the Black River and discover traditional raffia wine extraction and distillation. You will also observe local craftsmanship such as basket making and visit the drum temple before lunch and returning to Cotonou.
Day 7: You will explore Cotonou city, visit the local artisan market, and enjoy shopping for souvenirs. Later, you will be transferred to the airport for your departure, marking the end of the tour.
This is a fixed-date group tour operating only from 5th to 11th January 2027. It is not available daily or on request outside these dates, as it is specially organized to coincide with the Vodun Festival period.
