Climb Mount Kilimanjaro via the Rongai Route The Rongai Route is one of the most unique ways to climb Mount Kilimanjaro. Unlike other trails, it begins on the quieter northeastern side of the mountain, near the border with Kenya. This makes it less crowded and offers trekkers a more peaceful ascent.

Why Choose the Rongai Route?

One of the main advantages of the Rongai Route is its gradual ascent, which allows for better acclimatization and therefore increases the chances of summit success. Compared to other Kilimanjaro routes, this trail is ideal for climbers seeking a slightly easier path with a high success rate.

Day 1: Arusha to Simba Camp

Your Kilimanjaro adventure begins with a scenic drive from Arusha to Nale Moru village, the starting point of the Rongai Route. Day 2: Simba Camp to Second Cave

After breakfast, continue your ascent through moorland and alpine vegetation. As the forest thins, the dramatic views of Kibo—the main summit cone of Kilimanjaro—become more prominent. By late afternoon, you will arrive at Second Cave Camp, set in a peaceful valley beneath the jagged Mawenzi peaks.

Day 3: Acclimatization Day – Second Cave to Third Cave

This day is designed for altitude acclimatization, which is essential for summit success. The trek is shorter and gentler, allowing your body to adjust gradually. You will hike to Third Cave Camp, surrounded by open high-altitude landscapes that provide a sense of the mountain’s vastness.
