Day 1: Meet your guide upon arrival and check in to your hotel. After a relaxing Ethiopian coffee, drive to Menagesha National Forest, a pristine highland forest filled with towering juniper and podocarpus trees. Trek through lush trails, visit waterfalls, and enjoy a bush lunch in the heart of the forest. Spot Colobus monkeys, olive baboons, and Ethiopian bushbucks, and enjoy panoramic views from Mount Wechecha (3,380m). Return to Addis Ababa for an overnight stay.
Day 2: Drive north to Debre Libanos, one of Ethiopia’s most revered monasteries, founded in the 13th century. Visit the monastery complex and enjoy breathtaking views of the Blue Nile Gorge, often compared to the Grand Canyon. Walk across the Portuguese Bridge and trek to Saint Teklehaimanot Cave Church, home to monks and pilgrims. Day 3: Drive to Wenchi Crater Lake, an extinct volcano known for its pristine scenery, waterfalls, hot springs, and island monastery. Return to Addis Ababa and, time permitting, visit Saint George Cathedral and the National Museum to see “Lucy,” the 3.2-million-year-old fossil.
