3 Days Danakil Depression Tour

Day 1: Arrival in Semera and Journey to Ahmed Ella
Upon arrival at Semera Airport, begin the drive to Ahmed Ella, passing stunning landscapes of lava, rock, sand, and occasional palm-lined oases. Visit Ahmed Ella village to observe the daily life of the local Afar community, then continue to Salt Lake Asale for a unique swim and breathtaking sunset reflections.

Day 2: Dallol Exploration and Trek to Erta Ale
Start the morning with a drive to Ragad (Asebo) to witness the traditional salt mining process and camel caravans. Continue to Dallol, one of the lowest and hottest places on Earth, to explore its otherworldly colorful salt formations and bubbling lakes. After lunch at Ahmed Ella, drive to Erta Ale, where you’ll experience the world’s only permanent lava lake at this active shield volcano.

Day 3: Lake Afdera and Departure from Semera
After breakfast, depart Erta Ale and drive to Lake Afdera. This saline lake, located in the southern part of the Afar Depression is a major source of salt extraction in Ethiopia. Witness the process where lake water is pumped to saltpans for solar evaporation. After lunch, you will continue your journey to Semera airport for your flight to Addis Ababa.
