Day 2: At 5:30 AM, witness the volcano’s daytime activity before trekking 3 hours back to Askoma (meaning “red sand” in Afar), passing desert trees and volcanic rocks. Enjoy breakfast at the camp, then head to Lake Afdera for lunch and a swim in the salt lake. Continue to Hamedila, a small village of about 700 people, for overnight stay.
Day 3: At sunrise, drive to Dallol, one of the most astounding places on Earth and the second-lowest point after the Dead Sea. Explore colorful salt springs, sulfur and potassium fields, salt mountains, oil lakes, and salt mining areas. After the visit, drive back to Mekelle via Berahle to conclude your unforgettable Danakil trip.
