Your adventure begins with a scenic drive from Kigali, followed by a full-day game drive through rolling savannah and woodland. In the afternoon, unwind with a sunset boat safari on Lake Ihema — the largest lake in Akagera and the second biggest in Rwanda. Watch hippos, crocodiles, and colorful birds as the sun sets over the water — it’s a truly magical experience.
Spend the night at Ruzizi Tented Lodge, a beautiful eco-lodge built along the lakeshore. Enjoy a delicious dinner under the stars and fall asleep to the sounds of nature.
The next morning, wake up to a lakeside breakfast before heading out for another morning game drive, spotting more wildlife on your way out of the park before returning to Kigali in the afternoon.
Day 1: Kigali – Transfer to Akagera & Sunset Boat Safari Meet your guide in Kigali and drive through the rolling hills of eastern Rwanda to Akagera National Park. After checking in and enjoying lunch, head out on a short game drive to spot giraffes, zebras, and antelopes. In the late afternoon, enjoy a sunset boat trip on Lake Ihema, where hippos wallow, crocodiles bask, and flocks of birds skim the golden water. Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 2: Morning Game Drive – Return to Kigali Rise early for a thrilling morning game drive through the park’s northern plains. Watch for elephants, buffalo, rhinos, and lions in the soft morning light. After breakfast or a picnic brunch in the bush, begin your scenic drive back to Kigali, arriving in the afternoon for drop-off at your hotel or the airport.
Accommodation: You’ll stay at Ruzizi Tented Lodge, a beautiful eco-lodge located on the edge of Lake Ihema inside Akagera National Park.
Children under 12 are not allowed on the Lake Ihema boat trip. Children aged 3–5 receive a $100 discount; children under 3 join free of charge under guardian care.
