1 Day Jinja And Source Of The River Nile Experience
Located in eastern Uganda, it is the adventure capital of East Africa and the source of the Nile River. It offers thrilling activities and combines natural beauty with rich cultural heritage. Major attractions include Ssezibwa Falls, a stunning natural site with cultural significance. The Ssezibwa Falls is part of the Ssezibwa River, which splits into two streams before cascading 17 meters down rocky cliffs. Namawojjolo market is known for its Muchomo grilled meats, particularly chicken and beef pieces. The Mabira Forest is one of East Africa's most extensive remaining tropical rainforests, supporting over 300 tree species and a vibrant wildlife, where you can enjoy a forest nature walk. A boat ride to the exact spot where the River Nile separates from Lake Victoria on its journey to the Mediterranean Sea. The Jinja Railway Museum, which is a national railway museum located along the Jinja-Iganga Highway at the Railway Station in Jinja City. Jinja Railway Station is one of Jinja’s oldest, historical buildings. The Railway Museum contains artifacts from the days before the railway in Uganda, life during the early days of railway development, the era of colonial expansion, and the railways after independence. We later drive back to Kampala by about 6:00 pm for your drop off at the Hotel
We will pick you up from your Hotel in Kampala at 6:00 am and drive East to Jinja, the second biggest city in Uganda, driving through sugar plantations, tea plantations and colourful roadside fruit and vegetable markets. You will make a stop at Namawojjolo market to enjoy a light snack of roasted Chicken on the street along the Jinja highway
You will have a stopover at Sezibwa waterfalls which holds great cultural significance and is a sacred site for the local Baganda people, who believe the falls possess spiritual powers, you will take a guided hike of about 30 minutes and discover the natural beauty that surrounds Sezibwa Falls, The scenic trail offers breathtaking views and a chance to spot red-tailed monkeys and different bird species like Great blue turaco, pied craws and many more.
Later, continue to Mabira Forest, the second biggest tropical rainforest in the country, covering 306 square kilometres. While on this forest trail, you will be in a position to see and learn about abundant Flora and Fauna with a number of mammals, primates, birds, butterflies and tree or plant species. The forest is home to over 300 species of birds. Your nature walk will take about 45 minutes to 1 hour, depending on your pace.
Proceed to Jinja with your next Stop at the Jinja Nile Bridge on the Jinja Highway on the Kyabazinga Highway, where you will stop for Photographs on the new Jinja Cable bridge while enjoying a great view of the Nile.
Proceed to the Source of the Nile – Speke Monument for a boat ride to the famous historical and the Source of the Nile, the Speke memorial Monument, where the British explorer Speke first discovered the River Nile, the Longest River in Africa, with Lake Victoria and the Gandhi Monument. At that exact point, you will see where the Nile waters start to flow and where it joins Lake Victoria, the largest freshwater lake in Africa.
Drive to Jinja Railway Museum, a national railway museum which is one of Jinja’s oldest historical buildings. The Railway Museum contains artefacts from the days before the railway in Uganda, life during the early days of railway development, the era of colonial expansion, and the railways after independence. Part of the museum is designed with young people in mind to support their learning and appreciation of Uganda’s history.
After your Jinja adventure, we will later drive you back to Kampala for your drop off at the Hotel or Airport
