On this tour, you'll experience the impressive contrasts of Southern Africa: From the Windhoek plateau, the journey takes you to the Namib and Kalahari deserts, past the unique dune sea of Sossusvlei, and through the diamond region to the deserted Atlantic coast. Other highlights include the breathtaking Fish River Canyon, the fertile Orange River with its vineyards, the colorful Namaqualand, the alpine Cederberg Mountains, and finally, the fruit- and wine-growing regions of the Cape region.
The crowning finale is Cape Town with its famous Table Mountain – one of the most beautiful cities in the world. The city has so much to offer that a follow-up vacation is definitely worth it.
Suitable for everyone: This tour is ideal for riders of all levels. Most of the ride is on well-maintained gravel roads, with some asphalt.

Windhoek – Sesriem 320 km We set off southwest toward the Namib Desert. At the Spreetshoogte Pass, we enjoy a magnificent view down into the Namib Desert. This escarpment is where South America and Africa separated 100 million years ago. Refuel at the Solitaire desert gas station. Our final destination is Sesriem, the gateway to Sossusvlei. Sesriem – Sossusvlei – Beta 170 km Sossusvlei is a clay basin surrounded by red sand dunes, which, at 300 meters, are among the highest in the world. A short dune hike in the vastness and tranquility of the orange sea of dunes. Unfortunately, motorcycles are not permitted in the national park, so we have to transfer to the support vehicle. We visit the narrow gorge of Sesriem Canyon.
Beta – Lüderitz 330 km The desert landscape down to the Atlantic Ocean to Lüderitz is unique. Endless expanse. We'll stop for lunch in the small town of Aus. A fresh breeze will greet us from the Atlantic. Along the way, we can visit the old railway stations. German colonial history began in Lüderitz. Kratzplatz Guesthouse. Breakfast and dinner.
Lüderitz – Aus 200 km In the morning, we drive to Kolmanskop—once the richest city in Africa during the diamond era, now only a ghost town remains, where the dunes are increasingly encroaching. Afterwards, a winding drive along the sea to the Diaz Cross. Dinner at Station Hotel
Aus– Fish River Canyon-Oranje River 260 km We drive via Seeheim toward the Fish River Canyon, past the Naute Reservoir and the vast date plantations. In the late afternoon, we visit the gigantic Fish River Canyon, the second-largest canyon in the world. It's worth stopping here for a while to enjoy the vastness and tranquility. Canyon Road House. Fish River Canyon – Oranjemund 300 km A contrasting road parallels the Fish River. The road leads us through a gorge down to Ai-Ais. The vast green table grape growing region along the Orange River suddenly awaits us. We drive the 180 km along the winding road along the Orange River border to Oranjemund. Until 2017, the town was a peculiar place, as it belonged to the Diamond Company and was closed to all tourism. Guesthouse. Breakfast and dinner.
Oranjemund – Port Nolloth - Springbok 290 km Today we're crossing the border into South Africa. We drive the lonely stretch along the Atlantic coast to Port Nolloth.
Springbok - Klawer 260 km The area is sparsely populated. But near Lutzville on the Olifants River, the famous South African wine region begins. We follow the river through its verdant vineyards to Klawer. In the evening, we can sample the region's wines. Guesthouse. Breakfast and dinner.
Klawer – Cederberge 140 km Today we face a fascinating route that winds along the river. This route is popular with many South African motorcyclists. At Clanwillam, we turn into the Cederberg Mountains, on a narrow, winding track. Some compare it to the Dolomites in Europe. We must linger at the viewpoints to enjoy the magnificent, rugged mountains. Guesthouse. Breakfast and dinner.
Cederberg – Stellenbosch 230 km A rollercoaster descent from the magnificent Cederberg Mountains. It takes us over several passes and through the orchards of Ceres. It gets narrow in the gorge of the Bainskloof Pass. Magnificent views over Wellington await. Our destination is Stellenbosch with its world-famous wine-growing region. The town has oak-lined avenues, and the old Dutch architecture is unmistakable. Guesthouse. Breakfast. Dinner at cost price in one of the many restaurants.
Stellenbosch – Cape Town 160 km A trip to Cape Town isn't complete until you've visited the infamous Cape of Storms – the Cape of Good Hope. We'll visit the penguin beach "Boulders Beach," Cape Point (optional), and drive over the impressive Chapman's Peak along the cliff-top road back to Cape Town.
