Simien Mountains Trekking Adventure
The Simien Mountains Trekking Adventure is one of Ethiopia’s most iconic hiking experiences, taking you deep into the UNESCO World Heritage–listed Simien Mountains National Park. This journey follows dramatic escarpments, deep valleys, and Afro-alpine landscapes, culminating in the ascent of Ras Dashen, the highest mountain in Ethiopia.
The trek combines scenic ridgelines, wildlife encounters, remote mountain villages, and challenging yet rewarding hiking routes. Along the way, travelers enjoy breathtaking views, encounter endemic wildlife, and experience one of Africa’s most spectacular mountain environments.
Day 01: Gondar – Debark – Sankaber
Morning drive from Gondar to Debark for park formalities, then continue into the Simien Mountains. Optional short hike before reaching Sankaber, the first campsite.
Overnight: Camping at Sankaber
Day 02: Sankaber – Geech Camp
Trek along the dramatic escarpment with panoramic views of deep valleys below. Descend toward the Geech Abyss and Jinbar River waterfall before reaching Geech village.
Overnight: Camping at Geech
Day 03: Geech – Chennek
A scenic trekking day passing iconic viewpoints such as Imet Gogo and Innateye, offering sweeping mountain vistas. Continue to Chennek, a key wildlife area.
Overnight: Camping at Chennek
Day 04: Chennek – Ambiko
Cross the Buwahit Pass and trek through highland valleys toward Ambiko, the base camp for Ras Dashen.
Overnight: Camping at Ambiko
Day 05: Ambiko – Ras Dashen – Ambiko
Early morning ascent to Ras Dashen, passing giant lobelia and rocky ridges. Reach the summit and enjoy expansive views before descending back to Ambiko.
Overnight: Camping at Ambiko
Day 06: Ambiko – Chennek – Gondar
Descend through valleys and high passes back to Chennek, where a vehicle meets the group for the return drive to Gondar.
