Gorilla Trekking & Batwa Pygmies Safari
Spend 1 hour with the endangered mountain gorillas in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in Uganda. On the day of the trek, you are assigned to a group of not more than 8 people, and a gorilla family is assigned to your group. On your way to find your gorilla family in its habitat, you are immersed in the beautiful forest scenery, and your guides tell you about the different tree species and other interesting stories about the forest's inhabitants. The experience is paired with a community visit to the Batwa Pygmies, who originally lived in this forest before it was gazetted as a national park.
Day 1: Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is about an 8-hour drive from Kampala.
The experience starts with us picking you up from the city center of Kampala at your accommodation or an agreed-upon location of your choice within the city.
Pick-up from the airport can also be arranged if you prefer to start your tours in Uganda with gorilla trekking.
You are transported in a 4WD Land Cruiser to your destination.
Day 1: The sector of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park where you will have the gorilla trekking experience is in Kanungu district.
After the 8-hour drive, you will relax in your accommodation within the park and prepare for the adventure ahead of you for the next 2 days.
Day 2: Start your day with 7:00 AM breakfast before heading to the park, where you’ll be assigned a trekking group and a gorilla family. Enjoy a lively cultural performance before setting off on your guided forest trek.
Spend an unforgettable hour observing the mountain gorillas in their natural habitat. After the trek, receive a certificate to celebrate your achievement, then return to your accommodation to relax and rest for the next day’s adventure.
Day 3: Today is the day you spend time with the Batwa Pygmies as they show you their way of life while they lived in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest.
You go on a community walk where you become one with the scenic views you have been observing while at your accommodation.
You will also experience the tea plantations, coffee plantations, and a local banana wine brewery.
Day 4: Your experience has come to an end, and you make your way back to Kampala with your driver. The road trip offers such scenic views.
Wear comfortable hiking clothes and boots. The clothes shouldn't be of bright colours. Bring a rain jacket as it can rain at any time in the forest. Bring a hat and sunscreen. Bring bug repellent.
This activity needs a good level of fitness, though if you end up needing support to be carried from the forest, it can be arranged.
If you need a porter to carry your bag during the hike, they are available for hire at the park briefing center.
