Independence Square | Black Star Square, Accra, Ghana

The Independence square was built by Kwame Nkrumah as a way to commemorate the country's independence. Queen Elizabeth II was visiting at the same time. When building was completed in 1961, the area was dubbed Black Star Square. The Independence Arch, Black Star Gate, and Liberation Day Monument are among the monuments honoring Ghana's independence struggle. Ghana. Ghana's Independence Day parade takes place in Black Star Square on March 6th of each year.
