7 Days Cultural & Tribal Tour: Addis, Jinka, Hamar, Kara, Dassench, Arbore, Mursi

Begin in Addis Ababa, the vibrant capital, before flying to Jinka, the gateway to some of Africa’s most fascinating tribes. Over the week, you’ll meet the colorful communities of the Hamar, Kara, Dassanech, Arbore, and Mursi peoples, witnessing their traditional lifestyles, rituals, and crafts. Travel through striking landscapes of river valleys, savannahs, and desert plains, capturing unforgettable moments of daily life, ancient traditions, and stunning natural scenery.

Day 1: Addis - Jinka
Arrival of Ethiopian Airlines (ET) flight from Addis Ababa. Meet your guide and transfer to the lodge for lunch and a short rest.
In the afternoon, visit the South Omo Research Center and Museum to explore cultural displays, traditional crafts, and detailed information about the Omo Valley tribes. After the museum visit, drive to Girshe to visit an Aari village, then return to the hotel.

Day 2: Breakfast at the lodge. Drive to Kara Korcho to visit the Kara tribe, a small group of about 3,000 people living along the left bank of the Omo River, known for their remarkable body painting and face decorations. After visiting the village, drive back to Turmi, with a short stop at the Kizo River to visit a cattle camp, where young Hamar and Kara live together with their cattle. Lunch at the lodge, then visit the Hamar Market before returning to the hotel.

Day 3: Hamar - Kara - Hamar
Breakfast in the lodge. Drive to Kara Korcho to visit Kara Tribe (a small group numbering 3000 people occupy the left bank of Omo River and said to be the master of body painting and face decorations). After Visiting Karo village, drive back to Turmi short stop on the way, at kizo river to visit cattle camp (where all young Hamar and Kara live together with their cattle). Lunch in the lodge, visit Hamar market then back to the hotel.

Day 4: Breakfast at the lodge. Drive south to Omorate to visit the Dassanech tribe, who live near the Omo Delta at the border where the Omo River enters Lake Turkana.
Cross to the other side of the Omo River to visit a Dassanech village, then drive back to Hamar.

Day 5: Breakfast at the hotel. Drive to Arbore via Lake Chew Bahir (Lake Stephanie). Meet the Arbore chief (Kawot), enjoy traditional coffee, and visit the village.
Return to Hamar for lunch and rest, then attend a Bull Jumping Ceremony (rite of passage to manhood). Back to the lodge.

Day 6: Breakfast in the lodge, Drive to Jinka, on the way, visit Banna tribe and the colourful keyafer market then continue to Jinka.

Day 7: Breakfast in the lodge, drive to Mursi via Mago National Park (The Mursi are a minority people living in the Lower Omo Valley. The women in this tribe are known for a big clay plate they put in their lips for decoration, whereas the men are known for the different patterns they paint on their body decoration). After visiting Mursi village, drive back to Jinka. Lunch, then drive to the airport. Fly back to Addis.
