Itinerary
Start Point:
Arsi, Ethiopia
Arsi, Ethiopia

Arsi Mountains National Park, in southeastern Oromia, features stunning highland scenery with plateaus, forests, and deep gorges. It shelters wildlife such as the endemic mountain nyala, Menelik’s bushbuck, and diverse birds. As a key water catchment area, it feeds many rivers and streams. Trekking here offers visitors the chance to enjoy scenic landscapes, spot wildlife, and experience the traditional culture of the local Oromo communities.

Dinsho park, Robe, Ethiopia

Dinsho serves as the main entry point to the Bale Mountains National park. Surrounded by scenic grasslands and woodlands, it offers a peaceful setting. Visitors can obtain permits, guides, and information at the visitor center, which also features exhibits on wildlife and conservation. Nearby, mountain nyala and Menelik’s bushbuck are often seen. Dinsho has lodges and campsites and serves as the starting point for hikes to the Sanetti Plateau and Harenna Forest.

Harenna Forest, Ethiopia

Harenna Forest, on the southern slopes of the Bale Mountains, is one of Ethiopia’s largest and most biodiverse forests. Stretching from the Sanetti Plateau to the lowlands, it features a lush canopy, moss-covered trees, and rich undergrowth. Home to the endemic Bale monkey, lions, leopards, and over 160 bird species, it also supports wild coffee harvested by locals. Visitors can explore scenic trails and experience this tranquil, misty cloud forest within Bale Mountains National Park.

Sanetti Plateau, Ethiopia

The Sanetti Plateau, located within Bale Mountains National Park, is one of Africa’s highest and most remarkable alpine landscapes, rising over 4,000 meters above sea level. This vast plateau is characterized by open moorlands, scattered giant lobelias, and dramatic rock outcrops. It is home to the endangered Ethiopian wolf, the world’s rarest canid and other endemic birds and rodents. The plateau offers breathtaking views, scenic drives, and trekking routes across its windswept highlands.
